The New Lady Boss: How Karen Bass Punked And Shut Down California’s White Gay Leadership

Fear Of A Black Planet As Envisioned By Gay White LGBT Leadership

Yes, the whipping boy of the hour was most def’ Rick Jacobs. But he’s hardly alone. Why, California’s entire marriage equality leadership has been punked and chumped by Karen Bass this past week backed up her bros’ in da hood Mark Ridley-Scott and Curran Price.

How embarrassing is that Robin McGehee, a supposed “courageous” champion of the LGBT equality movement demonstrates that the best she can do while Jacobs is under the gun is lamely highlight on Facebook that his boyfriend is off in Uganda doing God knows what.

Oh my, why that changes things entirely. What a humanitarian. Wait.  Is that a lump we feel forming in our throat? OMG, we’re getting choked up.

Robin you’re just as pathetic as Jacobs—-if not more.  You talked a HEAP of shit all last year about Obama—-a politician who’s safely out of strike back distance we might add. Oh tough badass Robin—-look how she faces down the big black boogy man in the White House.

Now that white girl is one bad mamma-jamma.

Strangely, here in your own state you don’t have jackshit to say about anti-equality political doings happening right in your big fat loser face. You’re a cheezy self-important coward and a hopeless opportunist.  Don’t you get it, fool? You too, have been glaringly exposed by Karen Bass. You wouldn’t dare speak up to Bass or any other local politician with power particularly if they’re black because you don’t have guts to step out of your comfort zone and commence a real civil rights battle. Everything you’re about is all for show—from the National March On Washington to Meet In The Middle. You’re a big fat phony transparent fraud. Just go crawl under a rock somewhere and hide yourself. You’re useless, a worm and a sham.

We’re not even gonna waste words on EQCA. Their ineptitude, particularly when it comes to terror of California black folks in power is already a well known and well worn organizational characteristic.

As African Americans ourselves, we take no comfort or joy in the fact that well, effectively, the LGBT grassroots civil rights movement in this state is dead. Karen Bass killed it. She killed it because she’s African American and she’s endorsing another African American who is against gay marriage and gay white people and their lame gay white leadership are absolutely stark raving terrified of even the slightest possibility that they may actually have to address blacks —outside of the White House that is—on ANY level concerning LGBT rights. It’s just not gonna happen. They’re either too afraid or too racist—-or both. And that’s a shame.

So anyway, thanks for the entertainment Rick and Robin—the marches, the Camp Courages, the speeches, the rallies of the past year. The events we actually attended were kinda fun. Especially when we thought you meant it.

Hey Short ‘n’ Sweet. That short enough for ya?

You are a racist, misogynist and pathetic excuse for a human being. Everything with you is about race and gender. If or when you actually DO something that helps this movement, maybe your opinion will be worth something. Until then, shut the fuck up.

Take the hate out of your rant and I can't say I disagree, but my friend, why are we picking down what little leadership the movement may have? If you want to lead, please do, but I wouldn't waste anymore resources on dividing what is already a fragmented movement.

As a non-Californian who is not in on the personal grudges and blood feuds of The Golden State, this commentary sounds more like a Golden Stream p***ing contest designed to release massive built-up pressure than to accomplish anything positive for the future. I must confess I am not positively inclined toward anything that is based upon a "White this" and "Black that" view of the world or any situation. I will not draw an lasting conclusions or make any sweeping generalizations about anyone from this. I will say that, in my opinion, this is not one of the most productive journalistic efforts I've read. May tomorrow be a better day! Love and kisses anyway!

Gee Mark, here's a question for ya: What if it s a black and white thing? You sound as though that is just beyond the realm of possibility. The fact that race and racism tends to be kneejerk poo pooed and rejected immediately without analysis or the mere consideration of the possibility that the issue could very well be grounded in race is rather frightening.

I don't know where you live but I live in the United States of America. You know, the place where you can easily find t-shirts with monkeys eating bananas on that are implied to be the image and mentality of the current president of the country? Yea that place.

Well. Derrick, I'll start with the easy part first. I live in Washington, DC . . . in the District of Columbia not the burbs . . . and have for 32 years. So, I live in a far more civilized, multi-cultural, multi-racial, mutually-respectful environment than you do. I am not now nor have I ever been a government employee, a political operative or a lobbyist. I am a normal, hard-work citizen of the District of Columbia who loves this town and all the people here. I serve as an unpaid appointed citizen member of a federally mandated council that decides how the Ryan White Care Act fund allocated to the DC Metropolitan Region are spent to meet the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS. I deal with many people who have very little and need a great deal.

The District, not the federal government zone, is a miniature United Nations. You just can't show your ass and act like a 19th Century racist of any color and expect to get away with it. I live inn Adams Morgan, the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in the District. My daily routine involves people of all races and dozens of national origins.

My big thing is that skin color does not produce behavior or attitudes. Character and upbringing do. There are White folks who don't like or trust Black folks. There are Black folks who don't like or trust White folks . . . or Jews or Asians or Latinos. There are Asians that don't like Black folks. There are Latinos who don't like Black forks . . . or White folks. How do I know? I told you where I live and what I see every day. I also see plenty of decent White, Black, Asian, Latino and other folks who respect and care for each other. They work together to help each other have better lives and solve problems.

In 1971, I started out teaching school in a small town in eastern North Carolina that had recently desegregated its schools. I spend a great deal of time getting high school students to see each other as people not "n*ggers" and "crackers" or "honkies". I have spent the rest of my life since trying to break down racial barriers. So, I'm not going to respond well to racial labels that aren't accompanied by adequate definition and qualification to identify who is "included" or "guilty" and who is "not included" or "not guilty".

All Black folks are not alike. All White folks are not alike. If all you can see is Black or White, you are not looking closely enough.

Always make it clear that you know those things are true.

Huggs again! I'm on the East Coast so I'm going to bed!
