Shirley Sherrod’s Husband Latest Right Wing Target: "We Must Stop The White Man And His Uncle Toms"
Uh oh. A black man gets caught on film being pro-black. Yep. He’s in trouble now.
The conservative right are circulating videos of Charles Sherrod around the Net with a vengeance. Now they have their justification for continuing to support Andrew Breitbart and his lying racist ways. Apparently yet another conservative blogger Dan Riel of Riehl World dug up some old video of Charles Sherrod, husband of sista Shirley Sherrod (she’s so proud and black we have to call her sista)—-who as everyone knows was a victim of Andrew Breitbart’s video editing skills in which he made her statements seem rather aggressive towards whites and straight up racist.
After a beating by the liberal media these last few days Breitbart seems to have turned the tables back again on Sherrod with this video of her husband giving a speech in which he talks about how blacks need to support each other and pull together. Check this out:
We guess the following vid is the extended version but Riel posts two different videos:
Here’s right wing gay blogger Gay Patriot’s take on it:
Mark Knoller mentioned a potential wrongful termination lawsuit [from Shirley Sherrod] in passing. And now the media and the administration seem intent on making her [Sherrod] disappear. One theory on that I’ve heard is, they don’t want people asking questions about her lawsuit. What I’m wondering is, maybe they don’t want people asking questions about Obama.
He worshiped with Jeremiah Wright for years. He potentially appointed a racist black liberationist Marxist to the USDA. Just how many of them does he have around him, as he sits in the WH waging war on capitalism? And, finally, what might all those college documents of his they won’t let us see tell us about him … especially given this?
Ultimately, given all this now beginning to come out as a result of Andrew Breitbart’s original work makes him a hero in my book. These are the tough questions the press doesn’t even want to ask. It brings to the front important issues on race and racism, black, or otherwise, the press and the WH don’t wish to confront. But that’s what’s suppose to happen in a genuinely free, open and democratic society.
As things stand, an extremely controversial woman is sitting there with a free ticket for a promotion at the USDA from an incompetent in the WH who created this mess by appointing her, then firing her too quickly for some reason. This isn’t Breitbart’s mess. This is now Obama’s mess to clean up, or justify, as far as I’m concerned. Heckuva job, Barry. Heckuva job. At least we’re starting to get used to it. I believe the word is: incompetent.
Obama really does seem to have some of the strangest friends, just like Joan Walsh, of Sherrod’s white media conspiracy against blacks. Who’d a thunk it?
So I’m through with this story. The edited video was unfortunate, but the true racist stripes of the NAACP, the Sherrods, and the Obama Administration have certainly come out over a week’s time. So bravo, Mr. Breitbart. You hit the target.
Here’s the problem with this perspective and it’s not just white conservatives who see things this way: Black pride or being pro-black is not racism.
BEING PRO-BLACK DOES NOT EQUAL ANTI-WHITE
We’ll say this again: being pro-black does not equal anti-white. We’ve been accused of this ourselves many many times by white liberals because we’re vocally pro-black. They see this as a sign of anti-whiteness. Nothing can be further from the truth. Black people who are pro-black just don’t mince words concerning the abuses that blacks have experienced at the hands of the white racist. They don’t sweep such things under the carpet for the comfort of white folks. They don’t ignore white privilege. They don’t pretend that in the post Obama era racism is a thing of the past.
They simply tell the truth. Both white conservative and many so called white liberals have a huge problem with this because more than likely their experience of blacks in friendship and beyond is one of being “accommodated” in terms of those blacks being careful to not say anything that would indicate they are in tune or aware or even impacted by white abuses against blacks.
We know plenty of black folks like that. That’s what Sherrod meant in his video when he mentioned “Uncle Toms.” The entire gay black activist community in Los Angeles is exactly like that. These are the type of black folks who behind the scenes will pat a pro-black person on the back for speaking out and attempt to engage us in dissing white people—of course on the down-low. But these same people would rather cut off their big bubba lips than speak out or have a solid opinion on anything related to supporting the black community in the face of white oppression. And will distance themselves from an outspoken black with a quickness when it comes to mutual company and business with whites verses any association with pro-black folks and/or their views. Ask us how we know.
More than a couple of times we’ve been called racist for our pro-black point of view by other black people—-specifically other gay black people.
In the politically correct world, black pride is not supposed to exist. Not only is it not supposed to exist it is frowned on by blacks and whites alike. Charles Sherrod, this brother is just telling the truth. We see nothing inappropriate or racist about his words. He’s simply supporting his community in standing up and together to correct the inequities they’ve been subjected to. What’s racist about that?
We’ll tell you what’s racist about it. Black people expressing a committed love to themselves and their community and out and out acknowledging those people who have done everything in their power to keep these black people from having any sense of empowerment. And those people who have done everything to keep blacks disempowered now be offended that someone black would lay it all out like that. That’s the racist part.
Bottom line: this whole mess as Shirley Sherrod stated in the following interview with Anderson Cooper—the objective is to keep trying to tear down President Barack Obama because he is a black man. Plain and simple:

What's so funny about these speculations is that you have others (including Jeremiah Wright nowadays) who would say exactly the opposite about Obama…that, in fact, he's too damn white.
In fact, that's the criticism of Obama that I am personally used too, having heard it for pretty much the entiriety of Obama's political life.
Actually, I'm the type of person that will defend Jeremiah Wright before I defend Barack Obama…

Mr. Mathis, I am not from L.A. and do not know the background to your comment about the entire gay black activist community in L.A. being too accommodating of white liberals' delicate sensibilities, but be assured that you needn't mince words with me. Here in D.C. people are blunt enough; that hasn't stopped us from working together productively. (For example, strong black leadership was an essential part of D.C.'s marriage equality victory.)
As for Rev. Sherrod, even setting aside my suspicion of right-wing efforts to inflame based on out-of-context video clips, anyone who is a veteran of the Freedom Rides and was a co-founder of SNCC has earned a considerable amount of credit in my book. If anything, Breitbart and the people at Fox have done us all a favor by making the Sherrods more prominent. After all they've gone through, to still be standing proudly is a fine thing.
