Oakland Gay Pride 2010 Rocked! Check Out Pix
After a six-year lull, LGBT pride made a big comeback in Oakland on Sunday.
Oakland Pride, a daylong music, food and culture event drew at least 50,000 people, organizers said, to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community according to Mercury News. Gosh we wish we could’ve been there. The last such Oakland event was held in 20o4.
The Pride Fest boasted more than 60 musical acts on Sunday performing on stages spanning several city blocks between Broadway and Webster Street. And was headlined by Martha Wash and our MAIN GIRL MISS CHAKA KHAN.
A lounge was also set up run by Get Screened Oakland, a project in the mayor’s office encouraging Oaklanders to learn their HIV status and find out more about the illness, its “new epidemic” and a brighter picture for treatment options.
Free HIV screenings took a simple mouth swab — no needles — and preliminary results came through in about 20 minutes per person, project director Marsha Martin said. Check out these fabulous photos and the video at the end of the post with lots of happy folks groovin’ to I Feel For You. (Photos courtesy of Wolf94114 and Mary Mactavish)
