NOM Launches Summer For Marriage Tour, Sends Courage Campaign Into “Ca-ching” Frenzy

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) announced its “Summer for Marriage Tour 2010” a week ago which will crisscross the east coast, mid-west and southern states holding a series of 20 rallies encouraging supporters to stand up for marriage. Starting July 14th, the month-long tour will stop in key battleground areas of the marriage debate, educating local communities on why marriage between one man and one woman should be defended.

The first stop on the tour will begin in Augusta, Maine on July 14th and will wrap up in Washington, DC on August 15th. Here’s a copy of the full schedule:

As expected Rick Jacobs and crew saw dollars signs. They wasted no time in launching a fundraising campaign to milk some coin outta the deal:

We’re going on offense to expose the National Organization for Marriage’s agenda. And we need your help urgently.

Contribute now to help us make the match and launch our NOM Tour Tracker

We can’t let NOM go unchallenged. That’s why we are sending our staffers on the road for the next month to track every moment of NOM’s tour — and tell the truth to the American people. You’ll be able to see it all on a new NOM Tour Tracker that will launch at Courage’s Prop 8 Trial Tracker web site, which now has more than 2.3 million views and 35,756 comments.

However, unless our community steps up and supports our NOM Tour Tracker campaign, it’s not going to happen. We’ve budgeted $35,000 and a major donor has put up a $17,500 matching grant with a Wednesday deadline — the day the tour starts. To make the match, we need you to make a tax-deductible contribution today.

Can we count on you to make a tax-deductible contribution of $25, $50, $100 or more now?

We love Courage’s often used 2-day deadline strategy—you’ll find the same 2-day deadline in all of Courage’s appeals for cash. We particularly remember the 2-day deadline when they asked for that $100k last year to support the repeal Prop 8 2010 campaign; not that any of that has ever been refunded. Why not use that money for the NOM Tour Tracker? Hello? Rick? Rick Jacobs? Are you there? Did he just hang up?

Courage Campaign is just stupid right now. Are they really going to send a bunch of people to go and STALK the NOM people? They have a fucking list of EXACTLY where they will be, there is nothing that needs to be tracked. They have no plans of making counter events, just to follow them? Who are they going to send on this vacation? Where can i apply? Courage campaign is so worthless.

They should make a "Progress we have made" tracker. Why do they want to "Track" everything? So far its a trial that was already being live-blogged from en masse, recreating a trial that was already recreated, currently they are tracking our president and making crazy accusations about him, begging Megan McCain to have a story of self session with her father, boycotting Valero (rich people can easily do this.), and bitching about DADT all the time, yet what have the accomplished? I lots of doubling of efforts, thats about it. Also, not a peep on AB-1070. So what the HECK are they doing? Tracker time.
