We Are The World (1985)

Mashable blog reported today that Haiti benefit relief song  Everybody Hurts recorded by 80 celeb vocal artists brought together by American Idol’s Simon Cowell, is soaring around the Internet with a viral vengeance along with the remake of the 1985′s African famine relief hit We Are The World.

Mashable also states that relief efforts in Haiti have already seen huge influxes of aid from sources connected with social media and technology.

A rendition of an R.E.M track, Everybody Hurts includes a rooster of artists who lent their vocal talents to the track like Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi, Susan Boyle, Rod Stewart, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, and Leoni Lewis. R.E.M. has relinquished all royalty rights for the song, so they won’t be taking a penny.

The other track, a remake of  1985′s We Are The World, features recording artists such as Celine Dion, Wyclef Jean, Pink, Jamie Foxx, Carlos Santana, LL Cool J, Barbra Streisand, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, Akon, Jeff Bridges, Usher, Jason Mraz, Brian Wilson, Brandy, Lil Wayne, Josh Groban, and many others.

FYI: The Inquistr posted  today that actor Johnny Depp is interested in releasing his own single for Haiti and has joined with Australian rocker Nick Cave and former Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan to work on a cover of ‘I Put A Spell On You’, which was originally recorded in 1956 by ‘Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and has been re-recorded by a number of other artists, including Nina Simone, Bryan Ferry, Sonique and Marilyn Manson.  U2′s Bono and Jay-Z have also recorded a benefit song for the Haiti relief.
