Feeling Lame Cause You Haven’t Handcuffed Yourself To The White House Fence? Listen To Tim Wise On The Many Faces Of Activism

email

This post was featured on Racialicious and titled Tim Wise Takes On The Critics Of White Anti Racists. We all know who Tim Wise is right? That hipster white guy who’s making quite a substantial living these days writing shocker essays and books while on the lecture circuit the whole time he’s doing this telling good white folks high and low that they’re in fact effed up ‘n’ racist as hell. Naturally, black folks adore him.

Anyway, in this interview on Racialicious he takes on critics who more or less accuse him of taking away good jobs from black folks who live the racism he preaches against and should therefore be the ones lecturing ‘n’ writin’ books ‘n’ such. We find such an accusation ridiculous. God knows nobody has stopped us from complainin’ about whitey. Although we will say we have yet to get paid for it.

Wait, we’re getting off track. That’s not the point of our posting this interview.

Our point is that Wise actually talks about the various ways one can contribute in terms of social causes and how he ended up doing what he’s doing. Not everyone can raise a shitload of money or can actually get folks to volunteer for community events and what nots. But the line of wisdom Wise drops in this interview is time held: find the thing that you do best and DO IT. That’s what we did.

We love to write; actually we’ve been writing professionally believe or not since our early 20s. After thrashing aimlessly through the equality scene trying on various outfits over the past two years, we came to discover that LGBT bloggers have created quite the influential space for themselves in this whole equality rigamorale. So we gave it some thought and finally just decided what the hell ‘n’ jumped right into the thick of things. When we get that radio show on ‘n’ crackin’ then we’ll talk about our happiness and bliss in doing what we enjoy—-and being good at it.

So yea, we really like what Wise had to say on the matter of finding one’s place in terms of how to best serve a social justice issue that’s important to an individual.

We think you’ll get a lot out of it too.  If you’re spinnin’ your wheels talkin’ a whole lotta shit about Obama, demanding your rights by threatening to whip out your faux white privilege card and vote Republican because, well, self-sabotage you believe is your greatest weapon—-if in reality you’re doin’ nuthin, you know you’re doin’ nuthin’ and secretly feel deeply shameful, useless and frustrated over it—-this post is for you.

Oh yea, this also applies to LGBT blacks who remain deadly silent and totally absent throughout—-but the second equality is granted in your state you’re typically THEE FIRST IN LINE to receive unearned benefit from the battles fought by gay whitey. This is no secret. Gay white folks talk about it on the hush hush all the time. We think it’s shameful, too. Kinda like that whole black folks don’t leave tips, rule of thumb. Why don’t you tote your own weight for a change. You’ll feel good about yourselves afterwards.

Read what Tim Wise has to say and then sit down and figure out how you can best contribute while doing something you’re naturally good at.

So without further adieu:
