Retraction On Dan Choi Incident At Netroots: Here’s Why
Yea, that’s right. Tear that shit up.
For the first time ever in the 2-year history of RENWL we are retracting our statements.
Earlier we weren’t able to “see” the interaction between Dan Choi and the Obama For America (OFA) volunteer in which Choi tears up a flyer the guy handed to him at Netroots Nation. A video of the incident was not yet made available.
We wrote the post Dan Choi, LGBT Activists, Commit To Sabotage Obama’s 2nd Run on the incident based on what we read from other news outlets including Huffington Post.
But thanks to Think Progress, we got to see what happened. From what we watched of the incident on video we back Choi up in his actions completely. Why?
How the hell do you step up to an activist of ANY movement or cause and tell them you don’t support their shit. But then turn around and ask them will they support yours?!
WTF?!
Oh nooooo. Oh noooooooo. See, we thought Choi was just being a drama queen talking outta the side of his neck cause he was on stage and had a mike in front of him. But after seeing exactly what went down? Oh yea, Dan did right. He sure did. And he did it GHETTO right, too. Not that polite shit.

Can you believe that? What that OFA guy said and did was about as arrogant and ignorant as a person could get. Had we been in Choi’s shoes we would have done exactly the same thing with a healthy serving of expletives heaped on for extras. While we don’t agree with what Choi had to say about the president, we will say that we probably never would have heard about it (at least not this time out) had not Choi been insulted in such a way.
OFA needs to train their volunteers properly.
What an embarrassment and misrepresentation. He never should’ve raised his hand or approached the stage. Not handing out OFA flyers.

Agreed; and while Choi is being dishonest about his pending court trial, he was absolutely justified in his actions.

I have no reason to believe that the young man in question was anything other than a plant placed by Jane Hamsher or one of the other attention-seeking panelists in order to make sure that they were the story of Netroots Nation instead of the many panels that were positive and supportive of the re-election of Obama. I'm confident that no one at OFA approved of or encouraged him to act in this manner, and if he is actually an OFA volunteer, he's probably been UN-volunteered by now.
